Halo Reach Cr - The Credit System
76Halo Reach Credit System
One of the biggest changes in the new Halo game - Reach is the added credit system. This credit system was specifically designed towards the majority of players who like to feel like they are always gaining, or working up for something. You can earn credits for just about everything you do. Whether its firefight, big team battle, campaign, arena matches, you are always farming credits. They have kind of inserted this as their new ' ranking system'. Now as far as calling it a new ranking system, I am going to have to call BS. There only justification of ranking comes from the fact that the credits you earn are also considered experience points which carry you from one rank to the next. Keep in mind that you can't lose these experience points in any circumstance. ( yet). And the icing on the cake is that you will earn a considerable amount of Halo Reach credits even whenever you lose. So if we put this all together a certain player can play 100 matches and lose 90 of them and still have a better "rank" then a stud player who just started.
They have accommodated for this by making the competitive Arena System which I will analyze later on. On Bungie's side Making credits in Halo Reach was a smart move becomes it appeals to the masses and also to that wide variety of Call of Duty players who are alrady accustomed to this kind of system.

Different Ways of Earning these Halo Reach Credits
Before I wrote this paragraph I went and dove into every option of multiplayer of earning credits to make sure my hypothesis was correct. In each multiplayer game ( everything but campaign) you can earn credits by 4 separate ways:
- Game Complete - Simply finishing the game. Halo Reach awards these credits or cr to encourage people who are leaving the game to stay until the end. Yes, even if your team is getting killed, this should encourage you to stick through it. Besides if you leave the game you won't be awarded any credits at all!
- Performance - This number is based off of your k/d ratio and # of assist and deaths. I don't have an absolute calculation for it, but I know that the better you did during the game, the more Performance credits you will get. This number is significantly higher if you win.
- Commendations - Pretty much your medals. When you get medals in the middle of the game you might notice a small + 6cr or +4cr come up. These are all tallied together to bring you your amount of credits earned in commendations.
- Slot Machine - This is still a mystery. I do however know some aspects about this. Pretty much a certain amount of credits are added up at the end of the game by some method and they are randomly distributed to the players on the team. If you are partied up with a group of players you will all receive the exact same amount of slot machine credits. However, If you are going in solo you could potentially earn more or less. I have had matches where I earned 700 + credits and some where I earned 50 credits. This is not performance based at all.
The previous four ways are going to be your main type of credit income. Another way to achieve credits is by completing the daily and weekly challenges. These challenges offer credits if completed. The challenges will vary from anything like getting 100 assist in matchmaking to killed 200 grunts in firefight. I guess if you are a goal driven individual this could work out well for you!
The Halo Reach Armory
Halo Reach Armory
As I will explain in the next paragraph the Armory is simply a system brought into this version of Halo that allows you to customize and create a unique character to use in matchmaking or custom games on Xbox Live. Of course, these upgrades are bought with credits!
Spending Halo Reach Credits
This is an aspect of the game am excited to see develop. As of now you are only allowed to spend your credits on upgrading your armor and making your character look cooler. However, I do suspect that in the future credits will indeed be used to buy some pretty crazy things. My advise would be to save up your credits so that when these opportunities come available you will be ready to spend them at will.
Me on the other hand, am just trying to buy all of the armor pieces. I have become a tad obsessed with the % of armor completion tab on my profile and want to get it to 100%. Doing the calculation I think it is going to take a LONG time.
Some of the coolest things you can buy with your credits are death perks. By death perks I mean that when someone kills you your dead body will make some type of effect upon dying. Some examples are lighting strikes or hearts popping out. These are EXTREMELY expensive and require about 200,000 to 2,000,000 credits! So some people I believe will start farming credits. I am currently undergoing a personal experiment to see what the best venues are for farming Halo reach credits and will post an article about it soon enough.
But as I said, credits are going to be an interesting part of this game and I suggest you always keep a considerable amount to be ready to spend on some limited time offers.
Halo Reach
Halo Reach altogether has become one of the best games I have ever played. They do make you want to earn credits and have fun with your friends at the same time. Not to mention I have met some pretty incredible players that have become friends through Xbox Live. Along with some doushbags. I am going to have to hand it to Bungie for making a legendary game that won't be put down after a few months. This game should live on for quite a while. Especially because Bungie says they are done making the Halo series ( we'll see about that).

colderbing i have no idea what you were playing because I consistently get over 1500 cR for 10 minutes of play time!
Being a Halo noob this guide helped me alot, so thanks and good work.
i first played halo reach online then continued playing offline campaign and no longer get any credits at all. im still corporal and i only have 89 cr. it says credit limit offline reached and this was the only time i played offline. wtf is going on?
you can only gain credits if you play online and even then you might only get 50 credits for an hours worth of play on firefight.
you need to play matchmaking firefight, i reckonmend sroce attack gruntpocolypse
does anyboy know if i save up all my cr until the last rank how much ill have... because thats what iam doing right know please reply
an easy way to earn credits is to start a simple game of forge and don't do anything. the longer your there, you earn credits.
@fergman129: The highest you can rank up at the moment is Lt. Colonel Grade 3 once there you will have 540,000cr.
colderbing - you can't have any skulls on or you won't get more than 50 credits!
I play score attack and gain almost 2000 CR each game so fire fight is where its at as far as farming CR goes.. Crash site is best if you can survive the whole game and sniper attack is real good too, to be honest everything on fire fight is a good way to net some big time CR.. I only started about a week and 4 days ago and I'm almost a Lt.C.
i played online once at a friends house i came home and i cant rank up.whats the easyest way to rank up offline
you get a fair amount of credits in forge just by creating random objext and placing them on the map, i got a little over 3,000 just for one time of doing that. But i was playing for a while so it could be time
i cant get cr why
For ranking up offline, credit (Cr) awards are based SOLELY on time played with an additional multiplier for your rank. For example: 10-minute Firefight game for Recruit thru Sergeant Grade 2 is 450Cr+45Cr performance bonus. It does not matter if you get 1,000,000 points or 0--you will still get 495Cr total for 10 minutes of play. A Warrant Officer gets 540Cr+54Cr performance bonus for ten minutes (regardless of difficulty level and in-game score). The reason the campaign seems to give so many Cr is because it takes so long to complete each level. I left my game on firefight for 8 hours and got just shy of 4000Cr as a Sergeant. By my math above, the score will stop adding at 1 hour and 20 minutes. So if you Forge for a really long time, save it at 1:20, exit, and load it up and start again for max Cr. Also, as stated above, if you have connected to XBOX Live while playing Reach, you are boned and stuck with 50Cr a game, barring any kind of reward for commendations and such. I am not familiar with the online Cr awards because I can't play online "over here," but I could connect and I did get boned with the 50 Cr thing. So I deleted my profile and am remaining offline to earn Cr. I'll let you know how that works.
I forgot to mention the correlation between the performance bonus and the base credits. The performance bonus is always exactly 10% (rounded down to the nearest whole number) of whatever you are awarded for the game. Nothing you do can increase or decrease it. It seems you will always get it on firefight or campaign unless you quit early. On custom games you only get the performance bonus if you win.
i cant get credits in campaign because i farmed, how can i repair it? and if i can´t, do i still gain credits when i get the comendation to bronze, silver, etc.?
Max credit gain for saving all the way is something like10 million once update arrives
Actually bungie will be making more halo bc in the credits they mention that they will
In Halo Reach, you can still get alot of credits offline. BUT! The moment you went online for Reach, you will only get 50CR no matter how kick ass you are while offline.
so once you go online, there is no way to get a good amount of credits offline??? someone please help!
MaryJ1981 are you serious?? i've done campaign 3 times with a couple of skulls on trying to get more credits (don't have gold membership)and 50Cr per mission was all i ever got :( you'd think skulls would increase the amount you got, not limit it...thats so LAME
play firefight about 2000cR a game and gruntpockalyse about 4000 cR if u finish
If you are offline, do the campaign, preferably the harder levels on legendary. only missions after the space mission. After 10 minutes of play or after each checkpoint, save and quit game. you will gain about 1k credit if you do about ten minutes, i found this out a little bit ago and i am almost captain.
Proof positive I earned around 5000cr in forge and I've never used live is this also a reason??
Fergman: You can now go up to 3.5 million creits
Ok here's the deal with earning credits. Everyone only talks about of online earning but never talks about offline earning and to those with out xbox live suffers from lack of cr and eventually ragequits or believes that they reach the top at a low lvl...
Earning cr offline 101.
Cr is based off your gaming time spent on a mission the longer ur time the more cr you get.
I have tested this theory out and have found the best way to do this is.
1) play a mission on legendary (with all or no skulls your choice)
For about an hour. It will give you around 6,000cr plus ur 625 performance bonus which equals 6,868 in all.
That's still alot of cr for offline anylonger and your wasting time I've tried made a mission last 3 hours and still got the same amount.
2) firefight
U need two controllers or a really bored friend that doesn't mind dying alot. Start a firefight game. You need to have one player on spartan side and one on covenant (I say use rockets bottomless clips, again your choice) then move to a hidden spot meet up and kill eachother.
20 mins equals about 1000 cr for both of you.
Those are my tips enjoy and good luck. Btw I know this is a long and slow mission to do but not everyone has xbox live. And I jumped 5 ranks from lt colonel to commander grade 3 in about 2 days time
how come I was a warrent officer grade3 and I went back to a recruit and only got 50 credits or less and now I cant rank up at all
or u can go to sword base run thorgh the covent go to the air hanger wait for a checkpoint run up to the traget locater shot the enemis and u will get alot of cr
i am currently a brigider grade 1 and i am not online when i do go online do i lose all my armor and rank
help
cR Y U NO GIVE ME LARGER AMOUNTS
